We left Itero de la Vega early in the morning (6:30am) even though we were walking just 14 k because it promised to be a hot day. (See photo from previous post). We walked into Boadilla at 9:00 am and stopped for coffee and connecting for what will most likely the last time with our wonderful friends Barbara from Melbourne and Caeron from Ireland. They are walking farther and will be in Leon a couple days before us. Caeron will leave the Camino then and return home. Barbara has to be in Santiago by June 22. I felt sad saying goodbye to them. We had a great time and shared a lot of laughter. Caeron told his wife he had met up with 3 crazy women.
Anyway, Sharon & I started out again and after a few kilometres I realized I was exhausted and the pain in my left ankle was getting worse. I had been walking 18 days with just one day off. Sharon had had 3 days off because of her injured right leg, but she was exhausted also.
We walked into Fromista and found our albergue, checked in and didn't leave for the rest of the day and evening. It was a lovely place filled with people from all over the world. We spent the afternoon talking with Sabrina from Germany and had dinner with Yves from Switzerland.
I slept very well all night, thanks to melatonin and earplugs.
Determined to give my foot and Sharon' s leg plenty of time to heal, we took a a taxi to Corrion de los Condes and are now in a hotel room. Just us..not 30-50 other pilgrims and we have our very own bathroom and real towels. It's very quiet.
And, very importantly, Sharon's leg is very close to being healthy again and my ankle is much less painful
However, as we sped down the highway and passed all the pilgrims walking, we were wishing we were walking too.
Tomorrow we walk again
Buen Camino
It's good to take a rest day, Patty!
ReplyDeletePatty -- This tune came up this morning as I was baking cookies and I immediately thought of you. Don't know if you're a Steve Earle fan, but enjoy anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAmBkQDAUh4
