We left before sunrise and it was wonderful. The air was cool, the moon was full and the Eastern sky was turning gold. We walked as far El Ganso(5k) and found a place open for breakfast. The famous Cowboy Bar was closed.
The next stop was Rabanal where we met our friend Jack from Hong Kong. He was staying in Rabanal for a few days living with the monks. When I was here a couple years ago, I heard the Benedictine Monks chant....it was beautiful.
The next stop was Foncebadon where we were staying for the night. The walk from
Rabanal was a 3.75 miles climb in the heat and the dirt, but plenty of shade and a nice breeze. I was very dirty and sweaty by the time I got to the village.
The tiny village if Foncebadon comes into view and the first thing one notices are the crumbling houses (at least I think they are houses)...if only walls could talk...then the newer buildings housing the albergues draws ones attention. The village is coming back to life to support the pilgrims.
I find my albergue ..the Monte Irago with it's hippie atmosphere (oh yeah). I get signed in and immediately schedule a 30 minute Reiki session. Shower first...interesting cause the whole time I'm in the shower, people are coming in to use the toilet (separate water closet).
The Reiki treatment was a wonderful experience. The young man was truly gifted and very sincere
Dinner was a communal affair. We shared the table with Americans, a German, Helmut whom we had met the previous night in Santa Catalina and a Spaniard. The pealla was delicious.
After dinner, we went out exploring and met the goats and the .puppies.
I was in bed by 9;00. Around 10:00 our door opened ( we had a private room) and this woman poked her head in and said " there's just 2 beds? One up and one down?". I said "yes"... She said " okay" and left. What was that all about! I closed the door tight. No lock though.
Life on the Camino is good
