We awoke this morning to cloudy skies & chilly temperatures, so we dressed in layers with rain gear handy. After breakfast, we set out on our 18k walk to Villmayor de Monjardin. The first thing we encountered was the lost donkey and Francois , his person. That got our day off to a very heart warming start (see my previous post "Lost donkey",). We walked through Estella and into the country, through lush forests of native Holm Oak and pine trees. Eventually the forests gave way to field of green wheat with the bright red poppies in clusters. The sky remained threatening, but the rain never came. Only the strong, cold wind. The climbing wasn't too steep and the views were spectacular. We walked into Villamayor at about 1:30pm. We found the Alberque Villamayor de Monjardin and got checked in and settled in our room. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing, greeting friends coming in and meeting new ones. Francois and his donkey are here. (Yay!).
Another highlight of the day was the Irache Bodega fountain... On the right is pure sweet water. On the left is wonderful red wine. We didn't have anything to put the wine in, so we just put our heads under and drank. Oh man!
Tomorrow we walk 13k to Los Arcos. Sure wish the wind would quit howling. It's cold in here..
Who is drinking out of the spigot!!!? Eeewwww! Gross.
