On Camino!

The passed two days have been exhausting, exhilerating , pain filled and filled with new friends from all over the world.  The walk up to Orrison was a hard one for me.  I hit the wall about 30 minutes before reaching the alberque.  I recovered pretty quickly., thank goodness.  Sharon & I both had top bunks in a dorm with 3 sets of bunks beds.  Our roommates were all men and they, except for one, had the bottom bunks!  How fun was that.  I told Roland from Germany, he was going to have to spot me as I climbed down and if I had to get up in the middle of the night to pee,  I'd poke him with my hiking stick.  Dinner was amazing ...pork and beans (not the type that comes in a can) and fresh bread and wine and custard for dessert.  We introduced ourselves and we represented the USA, ENGLAND, HOLLAND,  JAPAN, KOREA, QUEBEC, GERMANY AND DENMARK.  Really wonderful , fun people.  When we all turned in, I said to the guys "none of you snore, right".  And not a one of them did!  I was lulled to sleep by the rhythmic cycling of the fellow's c-pap machine below me.

Sharon had a hard time with a very painful right leg.  She decided to take today off from walking and take a taxi to Roncesvalles. Good decision!  I wrapped it tonight and she took some Ibuprofen.  The calf muscle in her right leg is very painful.  A day of rest had helped and she will walk tomorrow.
Today I walked 17k from Orrison to Roncesvalles (11 miles) through some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen.  It was another hard walk... Lung bursting ascents and knee shredding descents.  I saw big herds of Basque sheep, cows, calves and one big, scary bull.  Also wild Pyrenees ponies.  The weather was gorgeous...sunny, windy & cold.  The " man in the van" was a welcome sight...I gulped down strong, black, hot coffee and a hard boiled egg.

Tomorrow we head for Zubiri..we'll walk 13.9 miles.  An easy day with just the steep descent into Zubiri.

What an adventure we are on!
I don't have any photos to post.  My phone is being really weird...I'll keep trying.

Love..Patty & Sharon
